Tropical Storm Induced Cool Water Upwellings

Studying the relationship between the ocean and hurricane activity is a primary focus for the Earth Scan Laboratory. One aspect of this relationship that has seen progressively greater attention in recent years is the relationship between the topological features at the ocean's surface and hurricane strength and the direction of a hurricane's path. The imagery in this section of our site visualizes affects on sea surface temperatures created by hurricanes traversing the Gulf of Mexico.
